The second Henan Provincial Colleges Weiqi Championship was held in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province from May 12 to 14, with 95 Weiqi players from 27 universities across the province participating.
The event consists of two groups: the students' and the teachers' groups, with the total number of participants reaching a historic high. Moreover, excellent Weiqi players in the province were gathered to form a College Professional Committee on Weiqi, affiliated with the Henan Weiqi Association (HWA). Professor Guo Baolin from the Henan University of Engineering serves as the committee director, helping strengthen the popularization of Weiqi in colleges.

Many players with age differences compete on the same stage in the students' group. Li Xingyuan, a player born in 2000, competed with Ma Yue, a player born in 1995. Li was not frightened when facing Ma, and he was delighted to meet the strong player though he lost to Ma. In the teachers' group, players also enjoyed the game.

After two days of competition, Ma Yue from Henan Normal University and Chen Changsheng from Zhengzhou University won the top spot in the college students' and teachers' groups. Sheng Ye from the Henan University of Technology and Wang Ziyue from Nanyang Institute of Technology won second and third place in the college students' group, respectively; Geng Tie from Henan University of Technology and Zhou Chengfang from Henan University were awarded the second and third places in the teachers' group, respectively.

"We have found many young Weiqi players in the event. The young people's fighting spirit and creative ability will instill new life into Henan Weiqi development," according to Ma Wang, chairman of the HWA. He added that these players abided by competition rules and worked hard during the event. They improved their Weiqi skills and made new friends, which helped promote the popularization of Henan Weiqi culture.
The championship was supported by Luzhou Lvdou Daqu Health Wine Co., Ltd. and hosted by the HWA. It implemented the latest competition rules approved by the Chinese Weiqi Association and adopted the point arrangement system. The top two teachers and three college students were awarded amateur 5-dan.
